The process
What actually happens when you use ECR
No sign-up forms that go nowhere, no automated quote engine. A conversation, a search, a clear explanation, and support that continues afterwards.
Step by step
Four steps from first call to signed contract
- 01
We talk
Tell us about your business, your energy requirements and your current contract. No jargon, no obligation.
- 02
We search
ECR reviews available market options to identify commercial energy contracts appropriate to your supply.
- 03
You decide
An energy specialist explains the available options clearly so your business can make an informed choice.
- 04
You save
Once a contract is selected, ECR manages the next steps with the chosen supplier and stays available afterwards.
Before you call
What's useful to have to hand
None of this is essential to start — we can work from very little — but having it ready speeds things up.
- A recent bill for each supply, or your MPAN/MPRN
- Your current supplier and contract end date, if known
- An idea of annual consumption, if you have it to hand
- Roughly 10 minutes for an initial conversation
Behind the scenes
How we actually compare business energy
This isn't a public comparison table — business energy pricing is quoted individually, based on your specific supply and the day you buy.
We take your meter details and consumption profile and request pricing from suppliers appropriate to your business — factoring in contract length, payment method and any specific requirements such as multiple sites or renewable tariffs.
Because commercial rates move with the wholesale market, pricing is only valid for a short window. We explain that timing clearly rather than pressuring a decision — but we're also upfront if waiting is likely to cost more than it saves.
After signing
What support looks like once a contract is in place
Confirmation of terms
We confirm exactly what has been agreed — rate, term length, standing charges — in writing.
Handover to the supplier
The new supplier manages the switch itself; we stay involved to check it goes through as expected.
A diary note for next time
Your renewal window goes into our tracking so the next decision isn't left until the last minute either.
Ongoing account support
Billing queries, meter issues or general questions come back to the same point of contact, not a new call queue.
Questions
Common questions about the process
What affects business electricity prices?+
Wholesale market conditions at the time you contract, your annual consumption, your meter profile, how predictable your usage pattern is, contract length, payment terms, your location's distribution charges and non-commodity costs such as network and levy charges. Two businesses on the same street can be offered different rates.
Why are business energy contracts fixed?+
Most commercial supply is bought on a fixed-term basis so the supplier can hedge the energy in advance. In return the business gets a known unit rate for the term. Unlike domestic supply, commercial fixed contracts generally cannot be exited early without agreement, which is why the renewal window matters.
When should I renew my business energy contract?+
Most suppliers will price a renewal from around 6 to 12 months before your end date. Starting early gives you time to review options across different market conditions rather than accepting whatever is available in the final week.
What is an MPAN?+
A Meter Point Administration Number is the unique 13-digit reference for an electricity supply point in Great Britain. It appears on your electricity bill, often laid out in a grid, and identifies the meter rather than the supplier.
