Four things we check before comparing gas

Find your MPRN
Your Meter Point Reference Number sits on your gas bill, usually 6–10 digits. It identifies the supply point, not the supplier.

Confirm annual consumption
Given in kWh on your bill or estimated from past usage. This places you in a consumption band, which affects who can quote and at what rate.

Check your contract end date
Most gas contracts have a defined switching window before expiry — usually opening 6 to 12 months out.

Consumption bands
Which band is your business in?
Suppliers group commercial gas customers into consumption bands. Your band affects which suppliers will quote and the shape of the rate offered.

Bands are indicative and vary by supplier. Your bill will confirm your exact annual consumption.
Gas pricing moves differently to power
Gas wholesale costs respond to different pressures than electricity, including storage levels, weather and import supply. A renewal timed well on gas is not automatically well timed on electricity, which is one reason we treat them separately even when quoting together.
Dual fuel is a bundling choice, not a rule
Buying gas and electricity from the same supplier can simplify billing, but it is not always the cheaper route. We compare both separately as well as bundled so the decision is based on the numbers.

What is an MPRN?+
A Meter Point Reference Number — sometimes called an M number — is the unique identifier for a gas supply point. It is usually 6 to 10 digits and appears on your gas bill.
What is a deemed contract?+
A deemed contract applies when a business is taking supply without an agreed contract — for example after moving into new premises or after a fixed term ends. Deemed rates are set by the supplier and are typically higher than contracted rates, so they are worth moving off promptly.
