What Is an MPRN?
Your gas meter point reference, where it appears and when you'll be asked for it.

An MPRN — Meter Point Reference Number, sometimes called an 'M number' — is the unique identifier for a gas supply point, equivalent to the MPAN used for electricity.
Where to find it
Your MPRN appears on your gas bill, usually labelled clearly and typically between 6 and 10 digits long. Unlike the MPAN, it isn't split across multiple rows — it's a single reference number.
Why it matters
The MPRN identifies the physical meter point, independent of whichever supplier currently serves it. When you compare gas contracts or switch supplier, this is the reference used to confirm exactly which supply is being quoted for.
When you'll be asked for it
Keep it to hand when requesting quotes, reporting a fault, or querying consumption — it removes any ambiguity about which meter and premises the enquiry relates to, particularly useful if your business has more than one site.
